Steel beams and structural columns in your building are exposed to open air without any fire protection coating. The bare metal will lose strength fast in a fire and your building inspector flagged it during the last review. Central Insulation Systems Inc. handles fireproofing work across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
Fireproofing shows up in commercial and industrial buildings from the 1970s forward. You'll see it as thick, textured coatings on steel beams, columns, and decking in mechanical rooms, stairwells, and parking garages. The material looks like rough concrete or plaster and ranges from gray to white. Buildings constructed after fire codes tightened require specific fire ratings for structural steel.
Without proper fireproofing, your building can't get occupancy permits or pass safety inspections. Steel loses 50% of its strength at 1000 degrees, which happens in minutes during a fire. Insurance companies won't cover buildings that don't meet current fire protection standards. Other contractors can't finish electrical, plumbing, or HVAC work until the fireproofing passes inspection.
Central Insulation Systems Inc. preps each steel surface by cleaning and priming for maximum adhesion. Crews spray fire-resistive material using pneumatic equipment to build up the required thickness for your building's fire rating. Each beam and column gets measured with digital thickness gauges to verify compliance with UL specifications. The final coating can be left textured for mechanical areas or smoothed for spaces where appearance matters.
Your steel structure will meet all fire protection codes and pass inspection on the first try. Other trades can resume work immediately after the coating cures. You'll have documentation showing every beam meets the required fire rating for your building's occupancy type.

commercial building needs fireproofing steel beams
Your commercial or industrial building failed a fire safety inspection. The inspector said you need fireproofing on structural steel. You don't know what type of fireproofing to use or who can install it.
Steel structures need spray-applied fireproofing or intumescent paint to meet fire codes. The type depends on your building's fire rating requirements. Hire a contractor certified in commercial fireproofing who can provide the required fire resistance rating.
